Join the Ranks of Guest Crew
Welcome aboard the Dirigo II. As guest crew, you experience life as a deckhand aboard a gaff-rigged schooner. You will work with the Core Crew to handle sail, stand watch, and help maintain the vessel as we explore the beautiful Sea of Cortez!
Guest Crew positions are for individuals with a flexible itinerary and basic sailing skills who want to expand their sailing knowledge onboard a traditional vessel. These positions are for sailors with an adventurous spirit, who appreciate the history of traditional wooden ships, and who are motivated participants in keeping the ship in Bristol fashion.
Typical Sailing Day
Up at dawn. Coffee and biscuits on deck for sunrise. The decks need to be doused, and brightwork wiped, weather forecasted, and boat prepared to haul anchor.
Set sail for the next sandy beach. Learn the ropes of a traditional gaff-rigged schooner, and help the crew trim sails, stand watch, and navigate the ship to our next destination.
Drop anchor, stow the sails, tidy the lines, and prepare to go ashore to explore! Hike the nearby mountains, or snorkel in the bay.
Return to the boat for supper at sunset, and spend the evening relaxing and playing music. Get ready to do it all again tomorrow!
Fishing (with license)
Guest crew contribute $150/day.
This covers the cost of food, drink, and vessel maintenance.
