DirigoSailing

Dirigo II anchored near Port Townsend

We motored through Deception Pass into a current of 4-5 knots. At 2000 RPM the diesel is generating about seven knots, but only 2 knots made good. Once through the pass, all is well for several hours, then the voltage regulator acted up and the generator kicked in at full charge. The batteries were boiling over, and finally the belt broke and the engine temperature started climbing. We shut down the engine and sailed with the staysail and foresail. Finally anchored off Port Townsend, the owner rowed ashore and bought a new fan belt. We motored into Port Townsend, later in the day.
